The match for the World Chess champion title ended in the 11th game with the victory of Norwegian Magnus Carlsen. The Sochi game turned out to be more difficult than Carlsen's last final meeting with Indian Viswanathan Anand, longer and more intense, but the Norwegian still managed to win and retain the royal title.

The tournament for the World Chess crown was held from November 7 to 25 at the Main Media Center of the Omega Center. The organizers also held a number of chess competitions at the match site with the participation of both novice young athletes and outstanding chess players.

The Omega Center, a partner in the organization of the tournament, created a hospitality zone in the media center, where spectators and chess fans could watch live broadcasts of matches and play a game during a business conversation.

The popularity of chess in Sochi was clearly demonstrated by the audience: about 500 people came to the Main Media Center every day, and more than 10 million people followed chess battles on the Internet. Sochi has truly become the sports capital of Russia, having a modern playground and infrastructure, the resort is of interest to various sports organizations. Sochi's good conditions and opportunities were also appreciated by the organizers of the match for the title of world chess champion.
«On the eve of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and all the conversations that are going around the expediency of holding it in Russia, the match for the World Chess Championship showed unequivocally that our country is not only hospitable, but also holds any competitions at the highest level,» said the President of the Russian Chess Federation Andrey Filatov and an interview to the TASS agency (http://itar-tass.com/sport/1594302 ).
